began the replacement of British gold, silver and bronze coins with
Australia's own coinage, beginning with the 1910-dated sterling silver
coins, all bearing Edward's portrait.

This one ounce, pure silver gem reproduces the allegorical design the Sydney Cove Medallion, an extremely significant artifact of Australia's earliest days made by Josiah Wedgwood in 1789 from clay found near Sydney Cove. The coin is struck in ultra high, medallic relief on a concave, double-thick, planchet (it is a piedfort) with a proof finish. The four classical figures represent Hope, Peace, Art and Labor.
