Australia 2010 Centenary of Silver Coinage - King Edward VII Silver Proof with Color

Centenary of Commonwealth Silver Coinage - King Edward VII
100 Years of Aussie Silver Coinage!
This vividly-colored silver proof features the very first Commonwealth silver coinage, and King Edward VII, too! The Coinage Act of 1909 began the replacement of British gold, silver and bronze coins with Australia's own coinage, beginning with the 1910-dated sterling silver coins, all bearing Edward's portrait.

The obverse and reverse (front and back, respectively) of the Australian 1910 Threepence (or 3d) Silver circulating coin features a portrait of King Edward VII on one side and the Commonwealth Coat of Arms on the other. This handsome silver proof features a full color portrait of King Edward VII of England, superimposed over a stupendous collection of the first silver coins issued by the Commonwealth of Australia - the florin, shilling, sixpence and threepence of 1910. Both the obverses (with the original Commonwealth Coat of Arms) and reverses (with the right-facing portrait of Edward) of these coins are depicted, in this intriguing coin-on-coin design.

This coin has a mintage of only 7,500, so it will go fast. A second coin in this series is scheduled to follow in 2011 with a complementary design to celebrate the first bronze coinage, issued under King George V

Sydney Cove Medallion Special Edition Coin & Plate Set

Sydney Cove Medallion Coin & Plate Set

The original, allegorical Sydney Cove Medallion is replicated on this high relief, pure silver piedfort (double-thick coin) with a special limited edition Wedgwood Plate!

This one ounce, pure silver gem reproduces the allegorical design the Sydney Cove Medallion, an extremely significant artifact of Australia's earliest days made by Josiah Wedgwood in 1789 from clay found near Sydney Cove. The coin is struck in ultra high, medallic relief on a concave, double-thick, planchet (it is a piedfort) with a proof finish. The four classical figures represent Hope, Peace, Art and Labor.

We have posted to our web site a wealth information and images about the origins of the Sydney Cove Medallion; the meaning of the allegorical design and its designer; Josiah Wedgwood, possibly the greatest ceramic worker the world has ever known; his studio and company, Wedgwood Pottery; and the legacy of the Sydney Cove Medallion. Just click here for more!

An Unique and Elaborate Set
Double-Thick Piedfort Sydney Cove Medallion Pure Silver $1 Proof DollarThis elaborate set is presented with an exclusive china plate especially made by the famed Wedgwood company of England (makers of the original Sydney Cove Medallion). This is no small saucer; this large, dinner plate size piece of fine bone china measures 8-1/4 inches (205 mm) in diameter. The blue and a white design reproduces the scene on the original Sydney Cove Medallion and includes lines of poetry from The Visit of Hope to Sydney Cove, commemorating the event and written by Erasmus Darwin in 1790. (Darwin was a friend of Josiah Wedgwood's and the grandfather of the famed naturalist and scientist Charles Darwin.) The plate is edged in pure platinum, further enhancing its value, collectibility and uniqueness.

An original of the Sydney Cove Medallion, one of 11 extant examples, executed in 1789 by Josiah Wedgwood in white or pale cream clay from Australia. The set is elegantly presented inside a handsome, oversized gift box and accompanied by a lavishly illustrated, full color booklet incorporating an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity and the full story behind the Sydney Cove Medallion. A display stand for the plate is also included.
