ANA Boston Coin Show Special Edition - Saltwater Crocodile!
The ANA (American Numismatic Association) held its annual World's Fair of Money for 2010 in the historic city of Boston this past week. To celebrate this collecting extravaganza (widely touted as the largest coin expo in the world!), the Perth Mint and Talisman Coins are proud to offer this unique and truly rare, pure silver saltwater crocodile coin, with a total of only 2,500 silver dollars being issued! What's more, this is only the third silver release in the extremely popular Celebrate Australia Program. Combine a highly popular animal motif, superior design, and the ridiculously low mintage, and you've got a sure winner! The
saltwater crocodile is an opportunistic apex predator capable of taking
any animal that enters its territory, either in the water or on dry
land. Domestic cattle, horse, water buffalo, sharks and gaur, all of
which may weigh over a ton, are considered the largest prey taken by
male crocodiles. As an ambush predator, it usually waits for its prey
to get close to the water's edge before striking, using its great
strength to drag the animal back into the water. Most prey animals are
killed by the great jaw pressure of the crocodile, although some
animals may be incidentally drowned.Previous coin show special editions have sold out quickly and increased in price! This new Saltwater Crocodile silver $1 won't last long, especially at this below-issue price! |

Cowboys Down Under ?!?!
The cowboy is an iconic symbol of the American West, right? Well, yes...and no. There are cowboys of sorts all around the globe, from the gauchos of Argentina, to Mongolia, to the horsemen of the Australian outback. And just as there are wild mustangs out West, so too do the wild "brumbies", as the Aussies call them, run wild through the range of the Australian Alps known as the Snowy Mountains. Accordingly, we hereby present two color silver proofs celebrating these symbols of wild Australia! Move 'em on, head 'em up! Hyahh! "The
Man from Snowy River" is a poem by Australian bush poet Andrew Barton
"Banjo" Paterson. The poem tells the story of a wild horseback pursuit
to recapture the colt of a prizewinning racehorse that escaped from its
paddock and is living feral with the brumbies (wild horses) of the
mountain ranges. Eventually the brumbies descend a seemingly impossibly
steep slope, at which point the assembled riders give up the pursuit,
except the young hero, who spurs his pony down the "terrible descent"
to catch the mob. "The
Man from Snowy River" suggested to Australians that they shared a
unique land and that the characters who inhabited it had much in
common. Australians from all walks of life, be they from the country or
the city, looked to the bush for their mythology and heroic characters.
They saw in the Man from Snowy River a hero whose bravery, adaptability
and risk-taking could epitomize a new nation. Just like in the United
States, the cowboy is a representation of the country's freedom,
independence, and rugged, individualistic spirit, set in a wild country
of impressive natural beauty! The Man from Snowy River was made into a feature film in 1982, starring Kirk Douglas, Tom Burlinson and Sigrid Thornton. This limited-edition color proof with a mintage of just 5,000 is already Sold Out at the Mint, so don't delay! What
could be more exhilarating than a diminutive jockey pushing his
powerful steed down the home stretch toward the finish line, in a dead
heat with another magnificent horse and rider? Horse racing is one of
the most fun ways to gamble, and who doesn't love to play the ponies?
We bet you didn't know that it was 200 years ago that the first official horse
race was run, or that Australians are absolutely mad for this
tremendous sport! Horse racing had become well established in and
around Sydney by 1810.
The
Aussie passion for racing the ponies is not well known outside
Australia, but it runs strong and deep. Thoroughbred horse racing is one
of the most important spectator sports in Australia, and gambling on
horse races is an extremely popular pastime, with about A$12.5 billion
wagered annually. (Yes, you read that right - that's "Billion", with a "B"! This
equals nearly $600 per person each year!)This beautiful color Silver Proof with a limited mintage of only 5,000 is available at our special price for a limited time! Regular
Price $99.95 - Special SALE Price Only $79.95 Each!

An Onslaught of Crocs!
Finally, here is a collection of other Australian coins featuring the Saltwater Crocodile! Coins with crocs are among the most sought-after, and for good reason! These are huge killing machines that strike fear into the hearts of man (& beast) throughout the world - the largest reptiles on the planet! Deadly & Dangerous "Saltie"!
This
spectacular, pure silver proof dollar features a
huge saltwater crocodile, lunging and snapping at the
viewer! This fourth release in the Deadly and Dangerous
series from the Perth Mint sold out almost instantly, but we have
acquired just a few of these to offer!![]()
The Saltie waits patiently for its prey on this stunning silver proof!
In its deadliest attack, called the "death roll," the saltie grabs onto
the animal and rolls powerfully. This throws any struggling large
animal off balance, making it easier to drag it into the water. The
"death roll" is also used for tearing apart large animals once they are
dead. The only threats to adult saltwater crocs are other crocodiles and humans. Get this special UNESCO World Heritage Site coin while we have them in stock!![]() Smallest Gold Crocodile Proof
Who can resist a little gold!
Smallest Gold lovers will find that the marvelous minting and refining
technologies of the Perth Mint have brought us this wonderful petite
gold proof, in a purity (99.99%) that puts other, larger gold coins to
shame! This design features a large male saltie making an aggressive display in its native river habitat, with water plants in the foreground. We love the engraving on this small gem - it looks like the crocodile is actually standing in the water and coming out of the picture plane of the coin! ![]() Full 1/2 Ounce Gold Crocodile!
For those who like their gold coins in a larger size, the Perth Mint
has created this 1/2 Ounce companion crocodile. With a mintage of only
1,000, this truly rare gold piece is very reasonably priced and a great
addition to any investment portfolio - at a price marginally above the intrinsic gold value!![]() Discover Australia - The Dreaming Saltwater Crocs
These intriguing Aboriginal animal designs were executed by Native Australian artist Darryl Bellotti. Each is an original work of art, with a different design on each metal (silver, gold and platinum). Perhaps best of all, each metal offers a very affordable, entry level option, as pictured here!
