New Coins from Australia - Collector Themes for All! Among the exciting new releases from the Perth Mint this month is a great military theme, the next in the Famous Naval Battles series - the momentous Battle of Jutland. This massive clash between Imperial German and British battleships in the North Sea in 1916 depicts not one or two, but three different views of Admiral Jellicoe's flagship, the mighty dreadnought HMS Iron Duke. If you're unfamiliar with this much-debated battle, we recommend the full story on our web site. Another entry in an ongoing program is the next in the hugely popular Bush Babies series - the adorable baby Dingo puppy! For both this and the Famous Naval Battles, we have the 5-Coin Display Box available as well! The second in the new Golden Age of Piracy Color Dollar series is the buccaneer Henry Morgan, known as the most merciless of them all. He would routinely torture captives for mere shreds of tactical information. The first, for the dastardly Blackbeard, is also still available. Did we mention how affordable these colorful dollar coins are - each under $15! Finally, allow us to focus on two of the several new Year of the Rabbit releases. One is the Reverse Proof Color Silver Dollar (featuring two different color bunnies!). The mintage limit on this is only 3,800, so we know it's going to go quickly - the Proof Silver Dollar with a mintage of 5,000 is already sold out at the Mint! The second is the highly desirable Year of the Rabbit 4-Coin Silver Type Set - with a mintage of only 1,500 sets, we predict it will go quickly as well, as it is a great value! Don't forget the eminently affordable 1/20 Oz and 1/10 Oz Pure Gold Rabbits as well! Here's a summary of the new releases in this week's newsletter: Naval Battles - Jutland- Fourth in the Famous Naval Battles Series - Clash of the Dreadnoughts in World War One! World War I Battle of Dreadnoughts!
After sparring for nearly two years, with the British maintaining a distant blockade of Germany's seaports, the long expected clash of the two rivals fleets began innocuously enough on the clear afternoon of May 31, 1916 in the North Sea. Soon, the British Grand Fleet, under the command of Admiral Jellicoe, was hotly engaged with the German High Seas Fleet, under Admiral Scheer. The
German fleet was outnumbered, but most analysts consider the quality of
their ships (especially their armor) and their level of training to
have been superior to the British. As the faster battlecruiser forces
engaged first, the British were dealt a cruel blow - one after another,
three of their battlecruisers were destroyed by single salvos fired by
their German counterparts. However, after Jellicoe and his battleship
squadrons arrived on the scene, the punisher became the punished, as
his superior numbers pummeled the German fleet. Most amazing of all,
though the British lost a total of 3 modern battlecruisers (and 6
capital ships total), the Germans lost only one battlecruiser,
Lützow.Read the full story this amazing battle (including the gutsy "Death Ride of the Battlecruisers" on our website here! Get this brilliant, colorful coin while we have it available at the special introductory price! |

Australia Commonwealth Coat of Arms & Citizenship $1 BU
|
||
|
This
special edition $1 features the highly symbolic coat of arms!
During the Middle Ages, any knight who went into battle needed to distinguish friend from foe and would paint identifying marks on his shield. Later, these markings began appearing on military surcoats and cloaks worn by royal messengers. This is how the Coat of Arms was born - a design of heraldic symbols created to represent a monarchy, a clan, a territory or nation. Formally known as the Commonwealth Coat of Arms, the Coat of Arms of Australia is the official symbol of the country of Australia. The first official Commonwealth Coat of Arms was granted over 100 years ago, by a Royal Warrant of King Edward VII in 1908. The design comprises a white and blue shield displaying six small escutcheons and a cross of St. George featuring five six-pointed white stars. Above the shield (with its supporters of a red kangaroo and an emu standing on a grassy mound) is the crest containing the seven-pointed gold "Star of Federation" (also known as the "Commonwealth Star") on a wreath of white and blue. Six of the Star's points represent the six original States of Australia, while the seventh point represents the Commonwealth Territories (and any future states). The motto "Advance Australia" is inscribed on a scroll at the base of the shield. This is the coat of arms that appears on the obverse of this coin. |

Golden Age of Piracy - Henry Morgan
Shiver me timbers! The Perth Mint of Australia has done Henry Morgan, the world's most merciless buccaneer, proud. The notorious pirate is depicted in a dramatic portrait (drawn from original source material!) with his ship in the background riding at anchor. The color image depicts a pirate's treasure chest, as well as two barrels (hogsheads) and a bottle of rum. Best of all is the price - it won't cost you a hostage's ransom to get this affordable, full color dollar! Born
around 1635, Henry Morgan was a Welsh privateer who organized daring
buccaneer raids along the Spanish Main from his base in Jamaica. His
actions gained him the reputation of a barbarous and pitiless pirate
who engaged in the use of much cruelty and torture. Following
the sacking of Panama, Morgan was arrested and accused of violating the
tentative peace with Spain. Yet when he reached London, he was
acclaimed as a hero. Pretending he had no knowledge of the treaty,
Morgan escaped the hangman's noose and was knighted by King Charles II!
He returned to Jamaica as Lieutenant Governor, an unbelievable end to
his career!Best of all is the price - you won't need a chest full of booty to get this affordable, full color dollar! Get it now at our low, introductory price! ![]() You
