2009 Poland 70th Anniversary of the Start of World War II 10 Zlotych Silver Proof

Start of World War II 10 Zlote Silver Proof
Terror Bombing of Wielun by
Luftwaffe Ju 87 Stuka Dive Bombers

Sold OutOn September 1, 1939, at about 04:40 am, Stuka dive bombers of the German Luftwaffe attacked the town of Wielun indiscriminately. Approximately 90% of the historic old town was destroyed, and many important buildings were hit, including the medieval Gothic church, the old town hall, and the hospital (despite a huge Red Cross sign painted on its roof). About 1,200 civilians died, representing 8% of the population.

The bombing of Wielun is considered one of the first terror bombings in history, and the very first in of World War II. The bombing had no military justification. Tactically, there were no Polish military forces stationed in Wielun. Strategically, the town held no heavy industry.

Stuka Dive Bomber in actionThis double A-side silver proof is shockingly direct.
One side portrays a map of Poland rent in two down the middle, with two military movement arrows thrusting into Poland. The western arrow bears the swastika of Nazi Germany, while the eastern arrow bears the hammer and sickle of Soviet Russia. The other side depicts German Ju-87 Stuka dive bombers, swastikas evident on their tails, in the midst of their bombing run on the center of old town Wielun.

Much more about the bombing of Wielun, the terror weapon Ju 87 Stuka, and the no-punches-pulled attitude of this remarkable coin program can be found on our web site, including many additional historical images!

This is an unbelievable price for a military-themed, sold-out silver proof!

We also have the other two coins from the release still available:

The 2 Zloty Nordic Gold features the Battle of Westerplatte!

The 200 Zlotych Gold Proof depicts Warsaw in flames and the Mermaid of Warsaw!

Tuvalu 2010 Famous Battles - Marathon $1 Ultra High Relief Piedfort Silver Proof

Tuvalu 2010 Battle of Marathon High Relief Silver Proof PiedfortGreek Victory at Marathon
The battle of Marathon between the Greeks and the Persians has been called an event more important historical turning point than the Battle of Hastings. It's safe to say that had the Greeks not successfully defeated the Persian invasion, we would not have Western culture or society as we know it!

Marathon coin showing double thicknessNews of the battle was carried to Athens by a soldier named Pheidippides, who volunteered to run the distance. He did so, arriving in Athens to utter the single word, Nenikhkamen, or "We have won." He then dropped dead of exhaustion, but his legend has been immortalized in the race we run today, the marathon.

An Ultra High Relief, Proof Piedfort
The feedback we've received from shows and customers is that this is a beautiful and stunning piedfort... we've even taken new pictures to give you a better idea of the beauty of this coin! The Battle of Marathon depicts Pheidippides (wearing the full armor of a hoplite soldier) as he completes his 26 mile 385 yard run from Marathon into the center of Athens. This portrayal is done in Ultra High Relief, with a frosted cameo proof finish, struck on a Piedfort (double-thick) planchet! With an extremely low mintage of only 5,000, this looks like a sure winner!

Canada 2009 Dragon Maple of Wisdom $5 Silver Proof with Hologram and Crystal

Canada 2009 Maple of Wisdom with Hologram Maple Leaf and Swarovski CrystalRare Hologram SML with Crystal!
Certain to sell out quickly, this unique Silver Maple Leaf features a one-off design of great significance - a dragon clutches a pearl of wisdom (in the form of a hologram maple leaf) in its claws, while encircling a red Swarovski Crystal that symbolizes joy and good fortune. What's not to love - a proof Silver Maple Leaf depicting a dragon, with a lucky $8 denomination, a hologram, and a red Swarovski Crystal gemstone - all on one coin!?!? All we can say is, get this one fast - it won't last long!

A blockbuster list of features!
Why do we like this coin so much? Let us count the ways:
    1)  A genuine, red Swarovski Crystal, combined with
    2)  The Mint's proprietary Hologram (first coin ever with these two technologies together!)
    3)  Unusual, lucky $8 denomination
    4)  Very low mintage limit
    5)  Dragon motif - the most auspicious of all the animals
(with the possible exception of the Tiger).
All this, and, oh yes, it's a Silver Maple Leaf, needed by all Silver Maple Leaf collectors!
