Gettysburg: Turning Point of the Civil War, High Water Mark of the Confederacy, and Biggest Battle Ever Fought in the Western Hemisphere! We've had scores, if not hundreds, of good folks ask us to let them know when the Battle of Gettysburg Silver Proof (announced lo those many months ago as the fifth entry in the Famous Battles of History Program) was finally released. Ok, that's what we're doing here - as of today, it's officially out! We know that demand is going to be huge. We know that the mintage is only 5,000. And we know that 3 million people visit the hallowed ground of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania every year (that's 1% of all Americans!). As
an American event, the Battle of Gettysburg has few equals. It was the
turning point of the War Between the States. It has given us so many
touchstones of the Civil War, names that live on in the annals of
military courage. Consider the notoriety of:Cemetery Hill Devil's Den Little Round Top The Peach Orchard Seminary Ridge Pickett's Charge The High Water Mark of the Confederacy and, of course, Abraham Lincoln's commemoration of the battlefield, the Gettysburg Address, one of the most poignant, enduring (and pithy!) statements ever uttered by a politician. All this is to say nothing of the brave men who fought and died during those three days in July, 1863. When all was said and done, there were 53,000 dead and wounded, all Americans. We have a more extensive history of the Battle of Gettysburg on our web site. The other new releases from the Perth Mint aren't exactly chopped liver, either! Battle of Marathon 2500th Anniversary Silver Proof Yes, this special adjunct coin to the Famous Battles Series is an ultra high relief, double thick (6 mm) piedfort! Greeks defeat Persians, then a 26+ mile run. Mintage is only 5,000, too! Leafy Sea Dragon Silver Proof The much-anticipated second entry in the Sea Life - The Reef Series! Anton Chekhov Silver Reverse Proof The playwright and author is the second release in the Great Russian Minds Series! Harry Houdini - Centennial of the First Flight in Australia Silver Proof Bet you didn't know Harry Houdini was an aviation pioneer as well as a magician & escape artist? No, really, he was, and he piloted the first powered flight ever in Australia - 100 years ago! Finally, last, but not least... Great River Journeys & Ships 5-Coin Silver Proof Set With a total mintage limit of only 1,500 sets, Perth Mint Multi-Coin Silver Proof Sets always sell out extremely fast. We're expecting a "flood" of interest in this latest set! ![]() On behalf of the Mints of Australia, Canada, France, Poland and New Zealand, all of us here at Talisman Coins invite you to visit us at this numismatic event, held at the Baltimore Convention Center, in the heart of "Star-Spangled Baltimore", the Inner Harbor area. Tuvalu 2009 Famous Battles - Gettysburg $1 Pure Silver 1 Ounce Color Proof

The
Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point of the American Civil War,
the largest battle ever fought in the Americas, and the high-water mark
of the Confederacy. It also marks the most-anticipated coin in the
Perth Mint's Famous Battles of History Series, so we expect this one
to sell out fast!
Three days in July, 1863 altered the course of history, not just for the United States, but for the world as well. As far as changing the course of history, Gettysburg may be the least known and studied throughout the rest of the world of the Famous Battles of History series, but as far as the worldwide impact on history, it may be the most significant. Consider this - if the Confederacy had won the Battle of Gettysburg and defeated the Union Army, the road to Washington, D.C. was wide open. And General Robert E. Lee would have taken it. So what if the South had won? This topic has been explored by numerous writers, imagining the effects of two separate United States of Americas on World War I, World War II, the Cold War, etc. The results boggle the mind. Once
again, the Perth Mint has done history proud! The Gettysburg Silver Proof depicts the final stages of Pickett's charge, simultaneously one of the most
heroic and tragic events in the annals of war. Brigadier
General Lewis "Lo" Armistead of the Confederacy (waving his hat on the
tip of his saber blade) leads the the charge
directly into the Union lines at the Angle. This was the High Water
Mark of the Confederacy - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 3, 1863. A
Union sharpshooter and a Confederate cannon are deftly engraved and
struck in frosted cameo relief. We got allocated & received only 60% of the total of Gettysburg Silver Proofs we requested. Get this long-anticipated gem while we still have it, at a below-issue sale price! |

Tuvalu 2010 Famous Battles - Marathon $1 Ultra High Relief Piedfort Silver Proof
|

The battle of Marathon between the Greeks and the Persians has been called an event more important historical turning point than the Battle of Hastings. It's safe to say that had the Greeks not successfully defeated the Persian invasion, we would not have Western culture or society as we know it! Its defeat at Marathon barely touched the enormous resources of the Persian empire, yet for the Greeks it was an enormously significant victory. It was the first time the Greeks had beaten the Persians, and showed them that the Persians were not invincible, and that resistance, rather than subjugation, was possible. News of the battle was carried to Athens by a soldier named Pheidippides, who volunteered to run the distance. He did so, arriving in Athens to utter the single word, Nenikhkamen, or "We have won." He then dropped dead of exhaustion, but his legend has been immortalized in the race we run today, the marathon. An Ultra High Relief, Proof Piedfort The Battle of Marathon depicts Pheidippides (wearing the full armor of a hoplite soldier) as he completes his 26 mile 385 yard run from Marathon into the center of Athens. This portrayal is done in Ultra High Relief, with a frosted cameo proof finish, struck on a Piedfort (double-thick) planchet! With an extremely low mintage of only 5,000, this looks like a sure winner! |

Regular
Price $69.95 - Special SALE Price Only $44.95 Each! When seen by itself in an aquarium, the Leafy Sea Dragon is hard to miss (but it's easy to understand how it acquired its name!). However, in its native habitat of the reef, the Leafy Sea Dragon can be one of the hardest animals to spot, as its leaf-like appendages make it perfectly camouflaged amidst the plant life and seaweed that lives in the reef. ![]() A clever innovation (and a neat little bonus!) is the colorfully illustrated outer box. When lined-up in release order, the outer boxes will form a panoramic image depicting all five reef creatures. The first coin in this series, the Lionfish, sold out at the mint in mere weeks, so we recommend ordering this without delay! If you missed it, we do have a limited number of the Lionfish still available as well:
