Visit us this coming weekend at the Philly kick-off!

Kickoff! We're very excited to be participating in the first annual Whitman Philadelphia Coin Expo next weekend! The City of Brotherly Love will welcome you with both the depth and breadth of its history and culture. As this first show kicks off, we are reminded that Philadelphia is the site of many "firsts" in U.S. history, including the first bank, municipal water system, and of course, the first Mint in the United States, created by the Coinage Act of 1792!

On behalf of the Mints of Australia, Canada, France, Poland and New Zealand, all of us here at Talisman Coins invite you to visit us at this numismatic event. We'll have a long row of tables along the back wall, and as always for Whitman shows admission is free! Please see the last section of this newsletter for full details & schedule.

Canada 2010 Dinosaur Fossil - Dromaeosaurus Raptor $4 Silver Proof

2010 Dinosaur $4 DromaeosaurusThe Original Raptor Uncovered!
Imagine the thrill of unearthing the teeth of a prehistoric creature - a terrifying, dragon-like beast, the likes of which the world had never before seen! This was the scene near near the red Deer River in Alberta, Canada in 1914, when the first Dromaeosaurus skull, nearly a foot long, was discovered.

The world had never seen a raptor dinosaur before, but it would soon be the stuff of fantastic fiction! The velociraptor may get all the attention due to its appearance in Jurassic Park, but Dromaeosaurus was the original raptor. With clawed hands on its forelimbs and sharp, recurved teeth, it was perfectly equipped for slicing into its prey!

Dromaeosaurus Raptor The Dromaeosaurus is the fourth and final entry in this series of Dinosaur Fossils, not only featuring an unusual denomination ($4) and pure silver, but also the Mint's oxidized fossil technology. The patination is unique on each coin, giving an aged appearance to the fossilized dinosaur depiction. This is an exceptionally well-priced coin considering its proof finish, pure silver, advanced technology, and full numismatic packaging!

We've got the Dromaeosaurus on sale at a great introductory price, and we still have the previous two dinosaur coins in stock as well!

2009 Famous Battles of History - Battle of Balaklava 1854 AD Pure Silver Dollar

Tuvalu Famous Battles - Balaklava $1
Charge of the Light Brigade!
The Thin Red Line. The Charge of the Light Brigade. Even if you don't know all the facts surrounding these famous episodes of the Battle of Balaklava, you've certainly heard of them!

In 1853 Great Britain, France and Turkey went to war with Imperial Russia on the Crimean Peninsula (in the Black Sea) for influence in the fading Ottoman Empire. In 1854, the British had made an error in the disposition of their forces, so the allies main port and supply depot at Balaklava was vulnerable.

The Thin Red LineTaking advantage of this exposure, the Russian General Liprandi, with some 25,000 men, prepared to attack the defenses in and around Balaclava, hoping to disrupt the supply chain between the British base and their siege lines. The first defenses fell, leaving the "Thin Red Line" of the Scottish 93rd Highland Regiment to successfully defend the Causeway Heights.

Just afterwards, the British Heavy and Light Brigades were ordered into the fray, leading to one of the most famous errors in British military history, the disastrous yet heroic Charge of the Light Brigade, immortalized as "the Six Hundred" in poet laureate's Alfred Lord Tennyson's tribute.

We expect the Battle of Balaklava Silver $1 Proof to Sell Out at the Mint! It is our understanding that much of the total mintage of only 5,000 is going to the Russian Federation and Eastern Europe. Get yours quickly!
New Canada 2010 Year of the Tiger $150 Gold Proof with Hologram

Year of the Tiger Gold
Canada's Hologram Technology
While superior design, engraving and minting make any gold coin from the Royal Canadian Mint special, the Mint's proprietary hologram technology enhances this gold Tiger even more!

The image of the crouching tiger shimmers and scintillates as you tilt the coin from side to side, resulting in a wondrous rainbow of colors that make the scene come alive. We love the Mint's holograms on silver, but many have told us that they think that the hologram looks even better on gold.

Tuvalu Famous Battles - Balaklava $1Observing the fearsome carnivore that is the tiger, whether in nature or in a zoological park, we mere humans can't help but be awestruck by the size, strength, and elegance of this majestic creature. The tiger (Panthera tigris) is easily one of the most intriguing, most beautiful, and most endangered great animals in the world.

The exquisite beauty of the hologram as it plays on the gold surface of the coin must truly be seen firsthand to be appreciated - a two-dimensional image just can't do it justice! Get this wondrous gold Tiger hologram at a below-issue, introductory price!
