More Stunningly Beautiful Swiss Shooting Thalers!
No doubt you will remember that our last European buying trip netted quite a few amazing finds, but certainly none more popular than the Swiss Shooting Thaler! Well, we've had the word on the street for quite some time (and it took over a year to accumulate a decent-enough quantity), so our contacts in Europe have continued to pay dividends - we came up with a couple more back dated silver Thalers, and two rare gold proofs as well!

Switzerland Shooting Festival Thalers
Helvetia, the personification of SwitzerlandSwiss marksmanship is legendary, dating to the hero William Tell (who shot an apple off his son's head). This tradition of superior marksmanship was established during the Old Swiss Confederacy, in the 15th century, when Shooting Festival participants showed off their aim using the crossbow. Of course, Shooting Festivals are meant to be fun, but they have a practical side, too - they keep the citizen soldiery drilled and sharp!

To commemorate the Shooting Festival events, these hard to find Shooting Thalers (or Talers; so-called from the days when that was their face value) have been issued since the mid-1800s in tiny numbers, and are very collectible, to say nothing of extremely attractive! Their traditional European themes and designs continue to resonate with collectors the world over.

Previously we offered silver Shooting Thalers from 2007 through 2010, and the gold Thaler for 2010 as well. This recent find allows us to offer four new Thalers:

• The 2005 Silver features the Bernina Railway Spiral Loop Bridge in high relief
   • The 2006 Silver depicts the famous "Swiss Miss" in a medallic-style high relief portrait
   • The 2007 Gold Thaler (mintage 175) features a sculpture-like portrayal of William Tell
   • The 2009 Gold Thaler (mintage 200) with an allegorical design includes a seated, nude Helvetia

We have a very limited stock of these Shooting Thalers (including the gold with their extremely low mintages!). You can also check here for our full selection of Shooting Thalers!

Switzerland 2005 & 2006 Shooting Festival Thalers

2005 Shooting Thaler Silver Proof2005 Shooting Festival Silver Proof!
The Shooting Festival in 2005 was held in the City of Brusio, in the Canton of Graubünden. Prestigiously, it was a national shooting festival (held only once every five years). We've managed to secure a small number of the 50 Francs Silver Proofs from a total mintage of only 1,500!

The perspective in this coin is amazing, in part due to the artistic excellence of the sculptor / engraver, and in part due to the use of high relief, which allows for more depth of design. Even the traditional motif around the rim is significantly raised above the field. And the design represents the perfect combination of two sought-after themes - a beauty and a railroad!

Lass + Locomotive = Love
In the foreground, a beautiful Swiss ingénue in a sheer, flowing dress gestures to the Bernina Railway Spiral Loop (more about this landmark on our web site) behind her with a gentle sweep of her arm. The lass in question is an allegorical figure. She may be interpreted as the town of Brusio and/or the Canton of Graubünden. Likewise, she could also be interpreted as Helvetia; her classical Roman-style toga garb is consistent with many representations of Helvetia, including the spear-armed young lady on much of Swiss circulating coinage.

Either way, we like her - we really, really like her! And we like trains, too! Get this extremely low-mintage (1,500 total) Silver Shooting Thaler now at our incredible sale price!

2006 Silver Shooting Festival Proof!
2006 Shooting Thaler ProofAgain, with a mintage of only 2,000, we feel lucky to have managed to accumulate a small group of these hard to find beauties. The 2006 Shooting Thaler design features the beautiful "Vreneli", the famed "Swiss Miss" (found on the gold coins of Switzerland), in a medallic style, high relief portrait. The beauty of this medallic portrait is further heightened by the simplicity of the composition and the blast white, cameo effect.

Colloquially, she is known throughout the world as the "Swiss Miss", though the Swiss themselves refer to their iconic young lady informally as "Vreneli", a term originally used for a range of legal tender Swiss gold coins. Coins with the Swiss Miss on the obverse were issued between 1897 and 1936, in 1947, and in 1949.

Be one of the lucky few to lock this serene little lady up today!

Switzerland 2007 & 2009 Shooting Festival Gold Thalers

2007 Shooting Thaler Gold Proof2007 Shooting Festival Gold Proof!
We've managed to secure a very few of these 500 Francs, gold rarities from a total mintage of only 200! (Yes, you read that right - two hundred!)

Here's a handsomely engraved, full body portrait of the soldier and marksman William Tell, the legendary Swiss archer. The vignette depicts him crouched on the ground, at the pivotal moment of his life. Leaning on his crossbow, he points to his son, Walter, from whose head he must shoot an apple or die. One can imagine the most obvious instruction he gives his son - Don't move! It is interesting to note that a similar, bust portrait of William Tell appears on the Swiss 5 Francs coin to this day.

These few coins will not last for long, so get yours now to avoid disappointment!

2009 Shooting Festival Gold Proof!
2010 Shooting Thaler Gold ProofAnother gold proof with an incredible low mintage - only 175 worldwide! Be one of the few people to be able to own this attractive coin from the Canton of Obwalden Festival!

This striking coin depicts a beautiful, half-nude woman instructing a Swiss archer in his marksmanship, with the mountainous Alpine terrain in the background. This is again another example of an open-to-interpretation allegory, as she may be interpreted as the Canton of Obwalden, as the cantonal coat of arms graces here shield. Likewise, she could also be interpreted as Helvetia; her classical Roman-style toga garb (or, at least, what she is wearing of it!) is consistent with many representations of Helvetia, including the spear-armed lass on much of Swiss circulating coinage.

Once again, don't hesitate to grab this one while we still have it!
