Canada Vancouver Olympics Special Edition $5 Pure Silver Maple Leafs
|
||
The
traditional maple leaf design is intriguingly rotated about 40
degrees clockwise, and an inset to the left side contains the
official logo of the 2010 Winter Olympics, including the Olympic rings.
The smiling figure of a man, in the shape of an Inuit inukshuk, is named "Ilanaaq the Inunnguaq". Ilanaaq is the Inuktitut (Inuit language) word for "friend", and an inunnguaq is a specific type of inukshuk in the form of a person.The Mint struck only a limited run of these 2008 Olympic Silver Maples, and they have since become hard to find, so get yours now while we have them! Special Price Only $29.95 Each!

This is the second Special Edition Olympic Silver Maple Leaf issued to
commemorate the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, British
Columbia. This one ounce, pure silver Olympic coin features the Thunderbird totem, by Native American artist Rick Harry (Xwa
Lack Tun). You can read more about Rick and his creative process (with
a very revealing set of photos) on our website! The Thunderbird is a legendary creature in North American indigenous peoples' history and culture. It is considered a supernatural being, greater and stronger than nearly all other creatures. The Thunderbird's home is at the top of Black Tusk, where it sits and surveys the world. So potent is this mythic bird that high winds result when it flaps its wings, lighting flashes when it merely blinks its eyes, and thunder explodes for miles around when its wings collide! Special Price Only $29.95 Each!Also available in tubes of 25 - Only $698.75 Each! See other Native American-themed coins on our web site! ![]()
This is the third Special Edition Olympic Silver Maple Leaf issued to mark the 2010 Olympics, being held in Vancouver, British
Columbia right now! This one ounce, pure silver coin features the national sport of Canada, ice hockey.To our eye, this warrior of the ice bears more than a passing resemblance to the preeminent hockey player of all time, Wayne Gretzky! The Great One himself appeared in the very first winter Olympics in which professional NHL players participated, the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Of course, the Gretzky himself lit the Olympic Flame at the beautiful opening ceremony in Vancouver on Friday evening! ![]() Special Price Only $29.95 Each! BONUS BOX #3 - 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics Gold Medallion Set
|
||
|
Do
you believe in miracles? YES!
Odds are you haven't seen this Olympic Gold Medal Set before; we see them only once every couple of years. So here's a truly unique opportunity (unique, because we have only one). This set was issued for the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, where the famed "Miracle on Ice" occurred. The U.S. team of amateur and college hockey players, coached by Herb Brooks and led by team captain Mike Eruzione, were huge underdogs. In the first medal round, the U.S. team faced the Red Army team, fielded by the Soviet Union and ranked #1 in the world. After two periods, the Soviets led the game 3-2, and most might have written off the Americans. But then a miracle occurred. ![]() (2 Gold Medals plus the common reverse pictured) Fighting desperately, the U.S. tied the game 3-3 just short of halfway through the final period. Now it was anyone's game. Only a couple shifts later, Mark Pavelich passed to Eruzione, who was left undefended in the high slot. Eruzione fired a shot past the Soviet goalie, who was screened by his own defenseman! This goal gave the US a 4–3 lead with exactly 10 minutes to play in the contest. The Soviets peppered the U.S. goal with shots during the final half-period, desperate to tie things up, but they were denied every time. Soviet victory was not to be. The U.S. defense held fast, and Team USA had an improbable victory! Still, this tremendous win would have been for naught had the Americans not prevailed in the next round. In that game, the U.S. needed another come-from-behind effort to beat Finland 4-2 after trailing 2-1 entering the third period. That clinched the Gold Medal for Team USA! To put this achievement in perspective, the Miracle on Ice was voted the "Greatest Sports Moment of the 20th Century" by Sports Illustrated, and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) picked the Miracle on Ice as the number-one international hockey story of the century as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations in 2008! This is an official Olympic issue, with the Olympic rings and the official Lake Placid 1980 logo on the reverse, as well as on the certificate and the velvet display case and outer sleeve. The packaging is complete and original. This set also commemorates the games of the III Winter Olympiad - the 1932 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. The first medal features skaters and the legend LAKE PLACID 1932. The second depicts a ski jumper and the legend LAKE PLACID 1980. Specifications (each medal): Proof finish, 17.00 g of .9167 fine (22-karat) gold, 27 mm diameter. Each is hallmarked "22K" on the edge. We've seen these two medallions individually for $995 each on internet auction sites. That's $1990 for the set (without the case, outer sleeve and certificate). Or you can get this golden morsel of historical Americana and Olympic legend from Talisman for only $1499. But there's only one, so if you want it, contact us quickly! |
