Elise Martinson is an Australian artist, graphic designer, and illustrator who loves animals.About the Artist
The creator of the original artwork for both the coins and the colorful, outer boxes for the Celebrate Australia series is Elise Martinson. Elise is an Australian artist, graphic designer, and illustrator who loves animals (as you can see from her photo!). After studying multimedia design for four years and then working for year and a half as a graphic designer, she became eager to follow her dreams of creating 3D art for games or movies. Realizing that the limiting factor to 2D and 3D artwork was not software knowledge, but rather the ability to create concepts and accurately render them, she is now dedicated to further cultivating her drawing ability. Elise currently designs both coins and graphic artwork for the Perth Mint, and still hopes to break into the games industry one day as a concept or production artist. Three of her better-known projects for the Mint are the Outer Space Dollars 9-Coin Set, the Backyard Bugs 9-Coin Set and the Bush Babies Program. Elise was formerly a resident of Melbourne, Victoria but now resides in Perth, Western Australia. Here are links for Elise Martinson's online blog and her professional website.

The Perth Mint of Australia employs its own proprietary colorization technology, in which the color is actually sealed on the coin. The vibrant hues and precise execution of the technology create a stunning, full-color portrait on each coin.

Fabulous Sydney, New South Wales
Sydney is the capital of the state of New South Wales and Australia's largest metropolis, but it arose from humble origins. Today's great city began as a desolate penal colony in 1788, when Captain Arthur Phillip sailed the "First Fleet" from Botany Bay to the south to a more suitable site at Sydney Cove. Despite the arrival of free settlers, Sydney expanded slowly until the discovery of gold in 1851.

The world famous Sydney Opera House, lit up at night, is a symbol of the country and continent of Australia. In marked contrast to its early existence, today's Sydney offers an enviable lifestyle, centered around the sparkling blue waters of its magnificent harbor and famous beaches. One of Sydney's famous waterfront landmarks is to be found on this pure gold proof. The architectural masterpiece that is the Sydney Opera House is minted in frosted cameo relief, depicting the Opera House's unique curved roof structures, which are suggestive of a fleet of sailing ships!

The Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts center on Bennelong Point in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was conceived and largely built by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, who in 2003 received the Pritzker Prize, architecture's highest honor. The citation stated:

There is no doubt that the Sydney Opera House is his masterpiece. It is one of the great iconic buildings of the 20th century, an image of great beauty that has become known throughout the world - a symbol for not only a city, but a whole country and continent.

The Opera House was made an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. It is one of the world's most distinctive 20th century buildings, and indeed, perhaps the most famous performing arts center in the world.

The Sydney Opera House is situated on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbor, close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Contrary to its name, the building houses several separate venues rather than a single opera theater, with the two main venues, the Opera Theatre and the Concert Hall, being defined by the two larger shells. The Sydney Opera House is a major performance venue for Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony, as well as hosting many touring productions in a variety of performance genres, and is a major tourist attraction.

Sydney - A World-Class City
A panoramic view of the remarkable skyline of metropolitan Sydney, Australia, including the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge, as seen at dusk.Sydney is the largest city in Australia, with a metropolitan area of about 4.4 million people. Approximately one in every five Australians lives in metro Sydney. The city is situated on Australia's south-east coast and is built around Port Jackson, which includes Sydney Harbour, leading to the city's nickname, "The Harbour City". The metropolitan area is surrounded by national parks, and contains many bays, rivers and inlets. A resident of the city is referred to colloquially as a Sydneysider.

Sydney is considered a true world-class city, ranked 16th among global cities by Foreign Policy's 2008 Global Cities Index. Befitting this status, Sydney was chosen to host the 2000 Summer Olympics. Sydney is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, which reflects its role as a major destination for immigrants to Australia. According to the Mercer cost of living survey, Sydney is Australia’s most expensive city, and the 15th most expensive in the world. Sydney also ranks among the top 10 most livable cities in the world according to Mercer Human Resource Consulting and The Economist.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge
A dramatic view of Sydney Harbour Bridge, lit up as seen at dusk. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel arch bridge spanning the waters of Port Jackson between Dawes Point and Milsons Point. It carries rail, vehicular and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district and the North Shore. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbor, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic picture of both Sydney and Australia. The bridge is locally nicknamed "The Coat Hanger" because of its arch-based design.

The Harbour Bridge was designed and built by Dorman Long and Co., Ltd, requiring 53,000 tons of steel and over 6 million rivets! It opened in 1932, and until 1967 was Sydney's tallest structure. According to Guinness World Records, it is the world's widest long-span bridge and its tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 430 feet (134 meters) from top to water level. It is also the fifth-longest spanning-arch bridge in the world.
