Bald_Eagle_Flying.jpg This beautiful coin is part of the highly collectible series of one ounce, pure silver eagles. The obverse design of this series features the historic and iconic Walking Liberty design. The reverse features the heraldic eagle design from which the coin derives its popular name. Many dates of the Silver American Eagles can be difficult to locate, much less in pristine condition, so we advise buying a date that you need or want when you find it.

A Classic Design
The design on the obverse is an adaptation of the classic Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman, which was originally used on the U.S. half dollar from 1916 to 1947. As this iconic design had been a public favorite (and indeed, one most beloved designs of any United States coinage of modern times, silver or otherwise) it was revived for the Silver Eagle decades later. The reverse portrays a heraldic eagle designed by John Mercanti.
